There are many different ways to manage a team and different management styles will, of course, work better than others depending on the situation and environment. While some of the words for the above approaches to management may sound a little negative, like "chaotic" or "autocratic", there is evidence to suggest that staff respond well to both assertive management styles and more "laissez-faire" managers.
There's also an argument to say that the best way to manage a team of staff is by being flexible enough to adopt many of these management styles as and when required. You may also have to experiment with different techniques to figure out what works best for your team.
But don't forget, to have happy staff you have to be human too!
